- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Sofia Garza Gomez -- perfect used book for a book lover : bought this as a present for a friend and she LOVED IT. the book was worn out, but thats exactly how I wanted it. It looked used and loved but not damaged. And, of course, it is a great story so five stars to the author as well. shipping was not fast but also not slow either, if you are buying this for a special day I recommend buying it within a reasonable time. - 5.0 out of 5 stars from Amazon Customer -- Hugo's classic story in the original French : Having previously only read the very beginning of Victor Hugo's Les Misérables, I wasn't very interest in the story, but then I went to New York and saw the show performed on Braodway, and that was enough to send me back reading. All in all, I think that if it is possible for you to read and understand in French, this book is the way to go, because it is Hugo's original words. You may also find it useful (as I have) to purchase the English translation in order to better understand the story. This also gives you a chance to nitpick the translator. On met une sommite de la prose hugolienne (Guy Rosa) pour ecrire les notes et il ne trouve rien de mieux que de deflorer TOUTE l'intrigue dans les premieres pages du roman. Quant aux nombreuses references obscures du livre, qui n'evoquent rien aux contemporains, une sur cinquante est expliquee. Le Livre de Poche a tout faux en mettant quelqu'un comme lui aux commandes des notes de bas de page, les acheteurs des livres de poche sont les plus susceptibles de n'avoir jamais lu Hugo, pourquoi leur oter le plaisir de decouvrir la fin par eux-meme. Je mets une note de 2 car les annotations en bas de page gâchent la lecture : ils spoilent en permanence la suite des événements, c’est juste insupportable après la 4ème ou la 5ème fois. A ne pendre que si vous avez déjà lu le livre et ne serez pas gêné par ces annotations qui décrivent en avance des éléments clés de l’intrigue ( Reviewed in France on September 25, 2021 )
